The Sugar Honey Iced Tea
I had the pleasure of attending a lovely little house show last night where several different eclectic musicians played, but there was one band in particular that stole the spotlight and that band was The Sugar Honey Iced Tea. Originally, I just went to support fellow Randolphian, Emily Shaw (vocalist/mandolin), but I was completely blown away by this band's sugar sweet performance. The Sugar Honey Iced Tea, based in Providence, RI, consists of 4 lovely ladies each bearing a different sounding string instrument, from a ukelele to a banjo. Not only do these 4 women know how to pick a guitar, each one of them has such an incredibly powerful voice, strong enough to steal the air right out your lungs (seriously though, each one of them). This is the kind of band that you wish you could be a part of. Something so good you wish you'd thought of it first. They have such a unique folky and whimsical sound that's like candy to your ears and never before have I heard a group of women harmonize with each other as well as these ladies do. Some of their songs had me swaying in my seat, dying to get up and dance around the room, while others had me captivated, nearly holding my breath to not miss even one note being played or word being sung. In a perfect world where school work didn't exist, I'd be laying in the sun right now, drinking sweetened iced tea listening to these wonderful women... but for now, I must go to class. The Sugar Honey Iced Tea are on tour right now, so check out their facebook and see if you're lucky enough to have them in your area!
