Flying Lotus- Until the Quiet Comes
Get ready for it.
On October 2nd, Flying Lotus releases his newest masterpiece "Until the Quiet Comes."
I feel like a little child awaiting Christmas with this album. Not only is he releasing this new album, but he's touring around for it too- Oh, hellllllll yeah! Unfortunately, he decided to skip Philadelphia for this tour, but that's not stopping me from seeing him.
To promote his new album, he let out this short film a couple of days ago and I think I've watched it about 10 times already. This album is going to be so damn good! (If you can't already tell from that video). Another reason I'm super excited is the collaborations! As if Flying Lotus wasn't good enough on his own already, some of the greatest musicians ever are featured in several of the tracks. Thom Yorke, Erykah Badu, Thundercat, OH MY!!!!!
Along with the video, Dr. FlyLo also released a new single off the album called "See Thru To U" Feat. Erykah Badu, which, I guess, will have to hold us all over until October.
Alright, Alright- So I guess there's nothing left for me to say here except, watch the new video, listen to his new single, pre-order the new album, and be happy.
Shlohmo- Bad vibes
Meet Henry Laufer.
But just call him Shlohmo.
This 21 year old producer from L.A. has been making beats since he was 14 years old, but it wasn't until last year that he put out his first album called "Bad Vibes." Some of his main musical inspirations growing up were Flying Lotus, M83, and Amon Tobin, and you can hear it in his music. He defies musical genres and instead, creates his own sound, smooth and soulful enough to put you in a transe.
Below is one of my favorites off his 2011 album "Bad Vibes."
Check it.

PIXIES- Hey (Diplo's Devil Remix)
Diplo did it.
Remixed one of the greatest songs of all time and it turned out pretty awesome.
I typically don't like when DJs remix rock oldies like this one,
but i'm really digging this a lot.
Pixies rule. this remix rules. enjoy.

Thundercat- Boat Cruise
Alright so, it's no lie that Flying Lotus is one of the dopest DJ's around these days and in preparation for Bonnaroo, I've been on a massive Flying Lotus binge. Not only have I been fiending for Flying Lotus, but also anything with that similar cosmic/jazzy/hip- hop sound.
I just want to thank my lovely roommate, Bridget, for introducing me to Thundercat. She passed them on to me like a little present and now I feel obligated to pay it forward.
Thundercat, or Stephen Bruner, began as a bass player for the thrashy/skate-punk group, Suicidal Tendencies, which you may or may not have heard of (Stephen Bruner replaced Rob Trujillo after he left to join Metallica). Today, he's collaborated with a handful of talented musicians, from Erykah Badu, to Snoop Dogg.
Most recently, Stephen "Thundercat" Bruner has been in cahoots with Flying Lotus and actually did both the vocals and bass for Cosmogramma. But anyways, forget everybody else for one second and just focus on Thundercat. He just released his first album in 2011 called "The Golden Age of Apocalypse" and it's incredible. I didn't realize so much soul could be compacted into one album, but apparently it's possible.
If you like Flying Lotus, you'll probably love the jazzy, calming sounds of... Thundercat.

AfroCubism- Mali Cuba
As Bonnaroo gets closer and closer, i'm getting sicker and sicker with excitement. After spending a couple days going through the line up, searching for some real gems, I found these guys who I had never heard of before (plus 15+ other bands which i'm far too lazy to post about). AfroCubism is a wonderful collaboration of Malian and Cuban sounds and they actually have a really interesting history, which you can read about here if you're interested. Ah, god, their music is so flavorful and exuberant, I just want to salsa to it all night. For those making the trek to Tennessee this year for Bonnaroo, take a listen to these guys and get familiar. I'm sure it's been a while since many of you have seen a show with musicians playing actual instruments, so take a break from the electronic and get into the groo0oove with these guys. I can imagine they'd put on a very entertaining and memorable performance.
Enjoy.
